Have you ever had one of those days....

....when you over sleep and finally get up 14 minutes before you are supposed to leave for work? And you put on a new shirt and inspect yourself in the mirror, thinking you look pretty cute? And somehow your hair still has some of the curl in it from yesterday so you just throw a pretty flower clip in it to finish off the look. And you leave the house feeling pretty lucky that you are such a goddess that you don't even need to put any effort in to looking good for the day?

Then as you are walking in to work you catch a glimpse of yourself in the semi-mirrored doors and something looks a little off? You walk in to the elevator with mirrored walls (why is everything at my work mirrored!!) and you look like you ate an entire humpback whale for breakfast even though all you really had was a bowl of Kashi cereal with soy milk and 1   2  3 cookies?  And you see the back of your hair and realize that what you thought were soft curls actually resemble knotted mouse nests?

Somehow you make it to the bathroom just to confirm that the elevator mirrors were really just fun house mirrors from the carnival...and you realize that you look like the female equivalent to the Elephant Man?

You take a deep breath, tell yourself you can do this, put your shoulders back, chest out and suck in your gut as far as you can because you know you have to make it past that guy's office that  you work with that used to be a model and even though you think he's a major jack hole you don't want him to think Shamu just swam by his office?

PLEASE tell me you've had one of those days....and that it's not just me??

I think I need another cookie.

  13. Basically every day was like that for me from the age of about 8 until the age of 20! Seriously, I have the pictures for backup :)
But - knowing you, YOUR hair looked just fine!

  15. Remember the time I went to school after a spiffy new hair do and one of my students said I looked like Cruella de Ville? Or a different supposedly fine time another student said that I didn't even look like I had combed my hair that day? Such is life!

  16. *lol* I've definitely had one of those days!

  17. Sure have had them! I'm not quite sure why my "creative" outfit ideas seem perfectly fine at home and are horrifying once I arrive at work. I try to plan my outfits the night before as often as possible to avoid early morning rush tragedies. LOL.

  18. Oh dear. I think I would have hid in the corner. Good job on putting your shoulders back and going for it.

  22. g'morning, SITStah,
Yeah, we all have those days :D I think people get used to us and they don't notice when we're having an "off" day as much as we notice it.

I train in martial arts on a regular basis. One thing I've come to realize is that the guys in my class don't notice that I'm having a bad hair day unless I point it out to them.

That's probably true for all the other people I think are noticing my every flaw too. They only see what I direct their attention too.

I say just flash your biggest smile and sashay your "shamu-godess-ness" down the hall past the ex-model's doorway. He'll come out from behind his desk to see what's going on :D

  23. Hold the phone! You mean to tell me that not every day is supposed to be like that? Ser, this is just supposed to be like the off day. Ahhhh man.

  24. Those pesky mirrors. You walk out of the house , even if you have had all day to get dressed. thinking I look good....and then those mirrors show up and you say, I am skipping lunch again.

  25. Thats like my everyday, except the kids' leftover waffles instead of kashi, sweat pants instead of real clothes, and it's about 6pm when i remember i haven't brushed my hair AFTER running errands all day. So in comparison you really were goddess-y

  26. It is all in how you carry yourself. Those ratty curls might mean you hooked up with Hugh Laurie or something. Wait-I'm still on my fantasy from last night's HOUSE episode. Don't waste the single life being insecure. Rock those ratty curls and eat what you like-with health not your figure in mind!

  28. 0kay, love it! When I was working after I had my daughter, I always was having one of those days...Let's not forget the feeling of your heart and stomach switching places as you realize you are running late. Luckily, I worked in a doctor's office so we wore scrubs everyday, but I always felt like the grossness of me not showering or brushing my hair properly seeped through like toxic waste. Ick.

  29. I'm sporting hair that hasn't been washed in 3 days as I read this. I thought it looked okay, but now I'm wondering . . .

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh, yeah, I know about those days. I also don't like the days that I feel like I look amazing and I don't see anyone who matters. What a waste.
    Happy SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh yes, that happens to me. But only on the days that I'm out in public and run into someone I haven't seen for years. Nice.

  32. Stopping in from SITS. Congrats on your SITS Day! Oh yes, I've had my share of those days. My stylist told me once that I should only wash my hair every other day and to just condition on the days i don't shampoo. Yeah, not working for me. It looked like someone attacked me with a grease gun and a brush!

Here's to good hair days (and cookies for breakfast!)

  35. Oh my goodness that is me TODAY!!!
I even have some left over eye liner on that makes me look like Courtney Love!

Stopping by from SITS - enjoy your day!

  36. Oh, honey, it is not just you. Recently, I left the house under the delusion that my hair still looked fab from the night out before. I labored under said delusion until I casually ran my hand through my hair and it got stuck. It's really hard to look casual as you use both hands to extract yourself from your own rat's nest, taking a handful of hair with you.

Do you have long hair? A messy-ish bun/chignon (never have figured out the difference) is always a good option on those days.

  43. Hahahaha! I have one of those days at least once a week! I find that my fashion/hair judgment is a weeee bit off before my third cup of coffee. I usually get to work and nearly faint. Fix it, then pour more coffee.

    Happy SITS day!!!

  52. Hi Just stopping by from Sits.....Yes I have those days all the time! I am a hair stylist so I am in front of the mirror all day, not fun when those bad hair days or skin breakouts pop up! Those floresent lights tend to highlight what you don't want them to! ;)
    Great blog!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Never had one of those days with the hair. But, of course we've all had bad days! Once, I came in with two different shoes - good thing they were both black. I don't think anybody noticed though.
